Here we are after having a breakfast feast at the hotel in front of a blinged out Christmas tree. The hotel called Cinnamon Grand in Colombo has completely adorned its corridors and main entry way in purple, blue, pink, and gold Christmas trees (all fake). The majority of the population is Buddhist, but other religions are practiced here as well. I still hear Christmas music playing wherever we go, and I'm told that it will stop on January 1st. Whew!! The Sri Lankan New Year is celebrated on April 14. The main hubs in Sri Lanka cater to tourists during this time of year, and many of the tourists come from Switzerland, Germany, and Australia. |
hearing about crazy flooding in sri lanka here from my Tokyo hotel. is that affecting you?
ReplyDeleteHi Taiyo - Great question and thank you for your concern. The flooding has affected a few areas near us in terms of losing river banks, but most of the flooding is occurring in the central and northern parts of the country. We are near Colombo, which is on the western side. Check out the map I uploaded. The weather has been much warmer and drier for the past four days, which is a welcome break from all the rain.
